CHIEFS FANS HOLD THEIR BREATH: Travis Kelce Gets Ankle Taped After Opening-Drive Injury Scare
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A wave of anxiety washed over GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium early during the Kansas City Chiefs’ matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Star tight end Travis Kelce sent shockwaves through Chiefs Kingdom when he appeared to tweak his right ankle on Kansas City’s opening drive, forcing him to head to the sideline for immediate medical evaluation.
The Moment the Injury Happened
On Kansas City’s initial possession—a 7-play, 41-yard march that ultimately resulted in a Harrison Butker field goal—Kelce suffered an apparent right ankle injury after getting caught at the end of a play.
As the drive concluded, broadcast cameras captured the veteran tight end limping toward the bench and taking off his cleat.
The Sideline Scene: Kelce took a seat on the trainer’s table where medical staff examined his foot and right ankle.
The Treatment: Athletic trainers immediately re-taped the ankle while Kelce tested his mobility alongside the Chiefs’ bench.
In the Suites: Up in the executive suites, Taylor Swift—who arrived at Arrowhead to support Kelce alongside Caitlin Clark and Este Haim—was seen watching anxiously as trainers tended to the Chiefs star.
