Travis Kelce took advantage of his bye week in the NFL to fly to Argentina and watch Taylor Swift perform. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was spotted in the VIP tent at Estadio River Plate, where he seemingly tried to convert Swift’s dad, Scott Swift, into a fan of his team by giving him a team lanyard.
Despite being a Philadelphia Eagles fan, Scott Swift was seen wearing the Chiefs merchandise. It appears to indicate he is happy to join his daughter in supporting Kelce and his NFL team amid their new romance.
This comes as the Chiefs are set to face the Eagles in Week 11, in what is expected to be a classic “Monday Night Football” game. The two sides also met in last year’s Super Bowl, with Travis and the Chiefs beating his brother, Jason, and the Eagles in what was dubbed the ‘Kelce Bowl’.
Swift and her family could’ve been forgiven for not being too keen on the Chiefs after that game against the team they support. But her new links to their star tight end Travis have meant they are now happy to throw their weight publicly behind the Chiefs.
Taylor Swift has referenced the Eagles in several of her songs, including “Gold Rush”. She confirmed her family’s fandom while performing in Philadelphia earlier on her tour.
“I don’t know how large the debate was, but I did see the debate about… I have a lyric that says, ‘My Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door,’ and I saw some people wondering if it was the band the Eagles or the team the Eagles,” Swift said on stage in Philly. “I love the band the Eagles, but guys, like, come on, I’m from Philly, of course it’s the team.”
Scott Swift is a big NFL fan according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who admitted that he’s met the singer’s father before while he was a coach at the Eagles. During an interview on “The Five Spot” podcast, Reid previously said: “I knew her (Taylor Swift) from Philadelphia. Her dad is a big NFL fan.
“I had met her when she was real young and her dad. I joked about setting Kelce up.”
It’ll be a strange Monday night game in Week 11 for the Swift family, as although they’re passionate Eagles fans, Taylor is now dating one of the main stars of their rival opposition.
She has attended several Chiefs games this season to support him. Now, he’s reciprocated that gesture by flying to South America on their bye week to be at one of her shows, enjoying the performance alongside her dad.
