Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend Maya Benberry has branded the NFL player a ‘narcissist and a cheater’ – while revealing that she has been getting death threats from Taylor Swift’s ‘angry fans’ after choosing to speak out about their budding romance.
In an upcoming interview with Inside Edition, Maya spoke about what it was really like to date the Kansas City Chiefs tight end – while insisting that she holds no ill feelings towards Taylor, 33, despite her criticism of Travis, 33.
It comes after the reality star, 31, spoke to DailyMail.com about her former beau’s alleged relationship with Taylor – and cautioned the popstar to be mindful of his past as she has been seen getting cozy with his family at his house and football games.
After accusing the athlete of ‘hypocrisy’ in an interview with DailyMail.com, she has now once again put Travis on blast for ‘cheating’ past, noting that it will come back to haunt him in every relationship he has.
Maya told Inside Edition that she truly thought she was going to marry the football player, adding that she even had a ‘key to his penthouse,’ and he frequently spent time with her parents.
However, she soon realized he was a ‘cheating narcissist’ who won’t ‘change.’
She said: ‘Certain qualities don’t change in men. I feel like Travis is a narcissist. Most narcissists don’t change.’
She has also claimed that the Kansas City Chiefs tight-end cheated on her, however, Travis has denied these claims and accused her of ‘trying to get her 15 min of fame’.
Maya told Inside Edition: ‘Like the saying goes, once a cheater, always a cheater.’
The reality star – who first met the football player when she was a contestant on the E! reality show called Catching Kelce – explained she discovered he was ‘cheating’ on ‘social media.’
And, she is hitting back at the claims she is seeking out attention by telling her version of events.
She explained to the outlet that she had brought the cheating allegations to light five years ago and no denials were made.
I’m offended because five years ago when I said the allegations about cheating, and when I talked about us being together for eight months, his camp, his team, and even himself, he didn’t say anything about it.
‘Now five years later, you’re laughing, and I feel like you’re mocking me.’
When it comes to her ex’s new relationship with Taylor, Maya said she doesn’t believe it’s the real deal.
She noted that because Travis is ‘talking to the media a lot’ she is questioning how ‘genuine’ the two’s feelings are for each other.
Maya also lifted the lid on how the singer’s budding romance with her ex has affected her life – explaining that she has received ‘death threats’ from ‘angry fans’ who are accusing over of trying to ruin their relationship.
She explained: ‘Swifties are aggressive, very negative, very hypocritical. It’s really crazy to me that someone that I think is positive and really nice has such a negative and angry fan base.’
Despite her qualms about the athlete, she wants the world to know that she isn’t ‘jealous or bitter’ when it comes to the singer.
‘I wanted the public to know I’m not jealous or bitter about Taylor. She’s beautiful, she’s successful, we’re in two different lanes,’ she said before pointing the finger back at the athlete.
She added: ‘My issue is more with Travis. Now, [he’s] trying to turn me into a bitter person or a liar, or delusional. And I’m the furthest thing from that.’
Maya’s interview with Inside Edition is set to air on September, 28th.
It comes after she accused him of ‘hypocrisy’ and hit back at his claim that she made false accusations about his alleged infidelity during their brief romance.
The reality star made headlines after she spoke to DailyMail.com about her former beau’s alleged new relationship with Taylor – and issued a word of warning to the singer to be mindful of his past behavior.
Shortly after, a source close to the Kansas City Chiefs tight-end denied claims Travis had cheated on her to TMZ, labeling her comments as ‘a poor excuse of someone trying to get her 15 min of fame’.
Maya defiantly defended her right to speak out about her experience of dating the Super Bowl champ back in 2016.
‘It’s crazy how this man has been doing interviews and podcasts about the show for YEARS but when I make a comment about it, I’m wrong?’ she wrote on Twitter.
‘The hypocrisy is real. If he can speak on his experience, why cant I?’
Explaining her decision to speak out, she continued on Instagram: ‘I got asked about my relationship and I spoke on it because I can. It’s my life and I can speak on it or about it whenever I please.
‘Everything I said now about my experience I said then after we broke up. So my narrative hasn’t changed, nor will it.
‘What I’m not going to do is put on façade about my experience when asked about infidelity. You don’t have to like my answer, but the truth is the truth.’
Addressing the athlete’s denial, she later asked ‘so which one is it: 8 months? 3 months? 1 month? none,’ in reference to her claim that his relationship with Kayla Nicole overlapped with theirs.
‘I could’ve sworn the whole point of a pr team is for there to be a consistent narrative but then again what do I know..,’ she continued.
Maya and Travis dated for several months after she won his E! dating reality series Catching Kelce in 2016, which saw 50 women from 50 states competing for the NFL player’s love and affection.
However, they soon split and the reality star went on to accuse the Super Bowl champ of cheating on her in a series of since-deleted tweets, when he embarked on his next relationship with sports broadcaster Kayla Nicole.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com about her ex’s headline-grabbing connection with superstar singer Swift, Benberry warned: ‘Once a cheater always a cheater.’
She said: ‘Taylor seems like such a fun girl with a beautiful spirit so I wish her the best of luck but I wouldn’t be a girls’ girl if I didn’t advise her to be smart!
‘I’m sure by now she has mastered the ability to see who is really there for her – and who is just using her.’
The marketing and brand consulting expert continued: ‘I can only hope that she comes out the teacher in this situation and not the student.’
Maya, who also works as a life coach, said she can only share advice based on ‘the man that I knew him to be when we dated’, before adding: ‘Only time will tell but like the saying always goes, once a cheater, always a cheater.’
She only dated Travis for a few months following the show’s end before they went their separate ways.
Maya appeared to slam his new romance with Nicole, claiming that there was overlap with their relationship.
When you and your ex broke up five months ago but you find out via social media that he’s supposedly been in another relationship for 6…’ she allegedly wrote at the time.
Travis, who dated Nicole on and off between 2017 and 2022, never spoke publicly about the claims made by Maya. He was also faced with allegations of infidelity during a brief breakup with Nicole in 2020.
‘This is fake news… a lie… and not why Kayla and I broke up… take all your hatred somewhere else please,’ he said at the time.
Now, Travis has seemingly moved on with Taylor. Discussing her appearance on his game on Sunday in his podcast, New Heights, the NFL star admitted: ‘She looked amazing, everybody was talking about her in a great light… Shout out to Taylor for coming through and seeing me rock the stage.’
He added: ‘I’m enjoying life and I sure as hell enjoyed this weekend. So everything moving forward, I think talking about sports and saying “alright now” will have to be kind of where I keep it.’
Talk of their romance first started when Travis revealed on New Heights, which he hosts with his brother and fellow NFL star Jason, 35, that he had hoped to get Swift’s attention at her KC concert via a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
Unfortunately she had left the stadium before he could get it to her, but she found out about it after the conversation went public.
As speculation began to grow, his brother Jason — who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles — stoked the flames further during an interview on Audacy’s 94WIP Midday Show.
The Eagles center told the hosts that: ‘I don’t really know a lot about Travis’ love life. I try to keep his business kind of his business, stay out of that world.’
He then added: ‘Having said that, man, I think they’re doing great and I think it’s all 100 percent true, and I hope this thing goes a mile — no, I’m joking, I don’t know what’s happening.’
Shortly after, Travis addressed romance rumors that had begun circulating between him and Swift during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show.
The host brought up the speculation that was ‘being talked about by the whole entire world right now’.
The professional NFL star admitted to McAfee: ‘It’s life, baby. I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court.’
Clearly his invitation did the job as the Bad Blood hitmaker was seen getting into the game as the Kansas City Chiefs battled the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
She gleefully cheered on her rumored boyfriend as she joined his mother, Donna, in the stands in a special VIP section.
The Grammy winner sported a red and white-colored ensemble to show her support for the recent Super Bowl champions and appeared to be having a blast with Travis’ mom as they shouted and cheered on the team and tight end.
The pair then left the stadium together in his vintage convertible and proceeded to hang out at a private afterparty at Prime Social Rooftop in Kansas City.
On Tuesday, the Look What You Made Me Do singer landed by on the East Coast, flying into New Jersey on a private jet after her whirlwind weekend.
Any relationship between the two busy professionals will have to be long distance.
The Grammy winner is scheduled to continue more shows on the South American leg of her Eras tour through November 26.
She is set to head to Asia, Australia and Europe beginning in February 2024 with scheduled dates through to August.
Travis and the Chiefs are set to tackle weekly games through to at least January 7, and if the season goes well, could vie for another Super Bowl victory in February.
Taylor is currently enjoying a break from her Eras Tour following a whirlwind few months travelling across America and the UK, with a South American leg coming up in November.
Interestingly, the first date back – November 9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina – is the exact week Travis will be away from the NFL during the Chiefs’ bye week.
That has raised the possibility that, should their relationship still be ongoing in a month’s time, he would be available to travel to South America with his new lover.
