'Hair's gone next year': Why Patrick Mahomes says he's ready to change popular hairstyle

Patrick Mahomes has become as popular for his hairstyle as he has being a magician on the football field.

But the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback says he’s seriously considering moving on from the taper fade mohawk that he’s had since his days at Texas Tech.

During the third episode of the Netflix series, “Quarterback,” which follows Mahomes and fellow NFL quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota on and off the field during their 2022 seasons, Mahomes hinted that a new do is in the cards as soon as this fall.

After a workout with his personal trainer Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes goes to take his headband and the Velcro gets stuck in his hair. Agitated Mahomes says, “This is my last year with the hair.”

“No, what are you talking about?” Stroupe shoots back in disbelief.

“Hair’s gone next year,” Mahomes says. “Going with different hair next year.”

“What, are you shaving it?” Stroupe asks.

“I don’t know yet,” Mahomes says. “I’m doing something different.”

Mahomes mentions he almost mixed it up during the 2022 season but that Head & Shoulders, the shampoo brand he endorses, “would’ve been mad.”

Stroupe asks if the ultimate reasoning is because it gets on his nerves with his helmet and hats, but Mahomes provides different rationale.

“Imagine me 40 years old with this haircut. I mean, come on,” Mahomes says to end the segment.

All eight episodes of “Quarterback” were dropped July 12 on Netflix.
“No I’m just like, I can’t have two kids and a mohawk,” Mahomes says.

So what are some options for a possible new look?

“I don’t wanna dread it. I don’t mind twisting it,”Mahomes says.

“Does it just get on your nerves in your helmet and hat,” Stroupe asks.

“No I’m just like, I can’t have two kids and a mohawk,” Mahomes says.

“Why not?” Stroupe asks.

“Cause I got to be a dad at some point,” Mahomes answers.

“Oh, come on man. You are a dad,” Stroupe remarks.
