Jana Kramer recently revealed her 8-year-old daughter could care less about pop sensation Taylor Swift.
On a recent episode of her podcast, Whine Down with Jana Kramer, the country singer and actress revealed that her young daughter, Jolie Rae, is not a fan of Swift. Kramer, 40, shared a conversation that arose after her daughter attended a birthday party: “Mom, is it OK that I don’t like Taylor Swift?” Jolie asked, prompting Kramer to assure her, “Honey, 1000%, you can like whoever you want.”
Kramer emphasized that popularity does not mandate personal preference. “It’s just because she’s super famous, you know, and everyone loves her does not mean that you have to love her too,” she explained to her daughter.
The I Got The Boy singer likened the situation to the universal acclaim of the Beatles, noting her own contrarian stance: “Just [like] the Beatles. It’s like, you don’t have to like that,” she added. “And sometimes, I didn’t like the Beatles because everyone loved the Beatles. So I’ve always kinda go opposite.”
While discussing her own views on Swift’s music, Kramer acknowledged her admiration for the “Bad Blood” singer’s career despite not loving her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, which was released on April 19. “I think she’s an insane entertainer,” she stated. “I still respect her as an artist.”
Just like Kramer’s daughter, not everyone is captivated by the pop star’s latest album, with notable critiques from other celebrities and media outlets. Courtney Love, the iconic widow of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, shared her blunt opinion on Swift in an interview with The Standard.
“Taylor is not important,” Love stated. She acknowledged Swift as a “safe space for girls” and the “Madonna of now,” but dismissed her as “not interesting as an artist.”
Additionally, the music review site Pitchfork offered a lukewarm reception to the album, scoring it a 6.6 out of 10. Reviewer Olivia Horn criticized the album for being “unruly, unedited, and even a little tortured.”
